A FINE PAIR OF FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS with octagonal sighted browned twist barrels stamped with barrelsmith's initials WF, case-hardened breeches each with oblong platinum-lined maker's stamp, platinum line and vent, case-hardened tangs engraved with foliage and a trophy of arms, signed engraved case-hardened bolted locks with rollers and rainproof pans, the steels engraved 'Joseph Manton Patent' and numbered 7387 and 7388, numbered figured walnut half-stocks, chequered butts, silver escutcheons engraved with owner's crest, blued steel mounts engraved with trophies of arms and foliage including numbered trigger-guards with pineapple finial, and butt-caps, horn fore-end caps, one original horn-tipped ramrod (the other missing), and nearly all their original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with trade label inscribed with owner's name and address and some accessories, the lid with folding brass carrying handle and escutcheon engraved with owner's crest, by Joseph Manton, London, No.6812 for 1815 15in.
