1965 4.2-LITRE JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES I ROADSTER
Registration No. KPK 425C
Chassis No. 1E11062
Engine No. 7E4146-9
Engine: six-cylinder in-line, seven bearing cast iron block and aluminium alloy cylinder heads, twin overhead camshafts, twin inclined overhead valves per cylinder, 4235cc, bore and stroke 92mm x 106mm, 265bhp at 5400rpm, triple SU carburettors. Transmission: single dry-plate clutch, four-speed synchromesh. Brakes: four-wheel Dunlop discs, hydraulic servo assistance. Left hand drive.
The Jaguar E-Type was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 and was an instant sensation. The sophisticated chassis design utilising a centre monocoque and a tubular engine bay subframe was derived directly from Malcolm Sayer's famous competition D-Type configuration.
Following the initial production series, Jaguar adopted an updated version of the E-Type in 1964 with the enlarged 4.2-litre six cylinder engine. Although not improving the 145mph top speed, the increased mid-range torque was noticeable. An all-synchromesh gearbox and an improved brake servo system were standard to the 4.2 cars. There were also major technical improvements in the clutch and electrical and cooling systems. Inside the new 4.2-litre model, the interior had better seats, revised dashboard, armrests and a storage compartment on the transmission tunnel.
This Roadster is finished in the traditional Jaguar dark green racing colour with a light green leather upholstery. The recorded mileage is 38,392 and this is probably correct. The engine runs well and has good oil pressure. The vehicle could best be described as original and sound. The paintwork and upholstery appear to be very good and in relatively new condition. The sills seem to be sound and the floor pans, while showing signs of rust, again seem sound. The hood is in good condition and the car comes with a highly desirable hard top.
