Triumph's illustrious mass-produced TR series of sportscars commenced with the TR2 at the 1952 London Motor Show. This used a version of the 2-litre Standard Vanguard/Ferguson tractor engine that was immensely robust and provided adequate power for excellent acceleration and a top speed in excess of 100mph.

The TR3 of 1955 was an improved version, of which the great majority were exported. Most prolific of the four-cylinder TR sportscars was the TR3A of 1957-61. Almost 60,000 of these were built of which less than 2,000 remained in Britain. The TR3A is by far the most desirable and popular version of the Triumph sportscars. It can be distinguished from the TR3 largely by the revised front grill which became full width with the side lights incorporated. The headlamps were also more recessed and outside door handles were introduced.

This example is an original right hand drive UK car and has had two owners since 1970. The present owner purchased the car in 1987 after the car had been in store for some eight years. The paint was in poor condition, as were the front wings, but otherwise it was very original. Over the past five years the owner has restored the car to an extremely high standard. Work has included a bare metal respray, reconditioning the engine (less than 1,000 miles have been driven since), complete overhaul of the brakes, front and rear suspension, new leather trim and carpets, new front wings, new hood, stove enamelled wheels, stainless steel exhaust system and much rechroming and fine detailing. The seats and back panel are the original and the car has a new MoT from May, V5 and old style log book, maintenance and workshop manuals.

If the TR3A is the type of car you wish to own, this one certainly warrants close inspection.
