Lot Essay

This unique example of the 'S' chair looks back to Dixon's earlier explorations into the potential of spontaneous creativity through the use of objets trouvés. The incorparation of an autombile steering wheel in this case, however, owes more to its size and shape than its inventive potential. According to the designer, it served as a convenient model for the base of this early lower and wider form of the final production version of the 'S' chair, which went into production in 1988.
