Christ and Mary Magdalene. The title is derived from St Luke's Gospel, ch. 7, v. 47 ('Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much '), but not apparently taken from the Vulgate, where the passage is translated 'Remittuntur ei peccata multa, quoniam dilexit multum'.
