Lot Essay

The parquetry pattern on the doors of this cabinet relates to a late 17th Century cabinet in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (J. van Herck, Il Mobile Fiammingo, Milan, 1972, p. 93, fig. 99), and, although lacking the seaweed marquetry, shares much in common with a cabinet from the collection of Peter Morris, Esq., Yester House, sold Sotheby's London, 14 December 1973, lot 162.
