AN ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE A ABATTANT
First half 19th Century
The associated rectangular grey-veined white marble top above a frieze-drawer with a central flowerhead flanked by foliate trails, above the recessed fall-front with inset rectangular bevelled plate enclosing to the reverse a green leather-lined writing-surface and a fitted interior with an arched and columned recess above five variously-sized drawers and two concealed sprung drawers, flanked to each side by a detatched column headed by a mount of Cupid and a mount of a bacchic youth, the lower section with rectangular top above a further frieze-drawer with two nymphs flanking a vase of flowers and flanked by floral wreaths, on column supports and a concave-fronted eared rectangular plinth and semi-spherical feet with brass castors, one castor replaced with a porcelain castor, the top inscribed in black ink 'No. 8 Slab' and 'N2'
