Note: The transit time for mail between Chinde and Blantyre varied from 3 to 19 days according to season and the running of the river steamers. The mail regulations laid down that "internal" B.C.A. postage rates applied only to or from persons actually resident in the British Concession; those in the town of Chinde had to pay "foreign" rates, i.e. those applicable to the Portuguese Colonies.
