This image was one of four used by Rodchenko for the sides of a lampshade he constructed for his own studio. His grandson, Aleksander Lavrent'ev writes ...This idea - of expanding the potentials of photography, of transforming photography into a concrete object - was also embodied in a lamp composed of various photographs. This lamp used to hang above the square table in Rodchenko's and Stepanova's studio illuminating their designs and instruments.
