A FRENCH SMALL-SWORD with sharply tapering blade of flattened-diamond section, brass hilt of characteristic form with scrolled arms, cast in low relief against a fishroe ground with naturalistic foliated scrolls and rocailles, gilt in two colours throughout and heightened with white-metal, in wooden leather-covered scabbard (end broken off but present) with gilt-brass locket and chape, the former carrying a frog button and engraved 'Dassier Rue Richelieu No.12', the latter engraved with foliated scrollwork, circa 1850
