In the D-Type's first test session at Le Mans in 1954 it broke the lap record set by Ascari's Ferrari in the previous year by five seconds. This was just the start of a momentous competition career that included three victories at Le Mans. Sir William Lyons' classic styling for the D-Type gave a hint of the E-Type to come and is still regarded as one of the best looking sports racing cars of all time. So much is it admired that many specialists have attempted to recreate the looks and performance in a road car suitable for today's conditions or constructed them for the more modern racing series.

This D-Type replica single seater racing car is based on the LR Roadsters chassis, designed by Reynard Racing Cars. The car was built for the Palladin racing series in 1990, but has never been used and is not even run-in. The chassis is lowered and all the suspension is solid bushed - the springs in the front are 750lbs and 500lbs on the rear. It has a 3.8-litre totally reconditioned six-cylinder twin overhead camshaft engine with oil cooler, vented breathers with a regulation catch tank. It has a six branch tuned exhaust manifold and Weber carburettors. The gearbox is four speed all synchromesh, reconditioned by Rob Beere Engineering. The body is all glass fibre and painted silver grey metallic with matt black roundels. The car is complete with vented front discs, air cooled front and rear brakes, full racing instrumentation and fire extinguishers. The electrics include a rev limiter and lightweight battery. The car can be converted back to a two seater by fitting the passenger seat squab and an aero screen.

Clearly this is a very potent road or race car with the evocative lines of the classic D-Type and is being offered without reserve.
