A Shepherdess and her flock

rectangular, 9 1/2in. (241mm.) high

Lot Essay

Although Hazlehurst's work embraced a wider context than portrait miniatures, (the City of Liverpool Libraries has a collection of 387 paintings of flora by him) it is interesting to see him working in this large scale. The face of the sherpherdess is well painted but Hazelehurst has had difficulties with the anatomy of the sherpherdess and the dog.
