A LARGE RECTANGULAR IVORY NECESSAIRE the cover with a carved monogram within foliate scroll borders, the fitted velvet interior containing vari-colour gold, gilt-metal and steel mounted implements including four ivory barrel-shaped cotton reels, a tape-measure, an aide-memoire, a turquoise-set blue glass scent-bottle, pencil, scissors, penknife, ruler, thimble, crochet hook, two vinaigrettes, one gem-set the other set with turquoises and formed as a book, an agate handled desk seal and pen (column broken) and a miniature gem-set snuff-box, 1818, maker's mark indistinct but probably that of A.J.Strachan, with a drawer below containg a vari-colour gold-mounted ivory bodkin case and shuttle and a small acorn-shaped box, circa1820
