Lot Essay

INDENTThe above diamonds must have formed part of an elaborate 17th Century jewel, which suffered the fate of other early pieces in being destroyed when its stones were removed for re-setting. The diamonds currently retain their cut-down silver settings, presumably dating to an 18th Century re-mounting. Cf. M.H. Gans, Juwelen en mensen (1961) pl.168 for a diamond pendant designed by Arnold Lulls c.1610
