INDENT Lieutenant Colonel John Uchtred MacDowell Ingilby, O.B.E., born 1874 at Harrogate, Yorkshire, second son of Sir William Ingilby, 3rd Bt. of Ripley, educated Charterhouse, was commissioned 2nd. Lieutenant 24.3.1897; served in the North West Frontier 1897-98; Lieutenant 1899; during the South African War 1899-1902 took part in the advance on Kimberley and was present at the actions at Magersfontein and Paardeberg (wounded 18.2.1900); Captain 20.12.1902; tranferred to 6 Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers 11.11.1903; Major 1914, and Officer i/c Infantry Record Office, Perth, 1914-19; Lieutenant Colonel 1919 (O.B.E.); served as Justice of the Peace for West Yorkshire, 1910
