INDENTLieutenant James Arthur Bowles, born 1883, the son of General F. A. Bowles, C.B., entered the Royal Military Academy and obtained his first commission, 1902; served on the Staff at Devonport as A.D.C. to his father, the Commanding Officer, 1909-12; joined the 28th Brigade R.F.A., 1912 and was appointed Adjutant of the Brigade the same year. Lieutenant Bowles was killed in action at the Battle of Le Cateau, France, 26 August 1914 (refer to the Official History, 1914 - pages 120, 143, 150 and 151 for details of 28 Brigade's action at Le Cateau)
