INDENTFlight Commander Louis Duncan Morrison was drowned with several other officers and men when the airship he was piloting crashed into the sea off the East Coast 21 July 1917 - he is buried in the Western Cemetery, Hull.
Lieutenant Maurice Ford Oakley joined the R.N.A.S. in 1917 after being employed in the manufacture of aircraft engines for six months with Gwynne & Co. Engineers, Chiswick; after training at Crystal Palace Vendome, Cranwell and Lee on Solent he proceeded to Italy 18 February 1918 and joined 66th Wing Royal Flying Corps. On his 19th Birthday he was killed with his Observer on a trial flight before a bombing expedition at Oranto and is buried in the cemetery there (Rugby School Memorial Volume VI refers). His Captain wrote "Your son had done extremely well here and had carried out some particularly difficult bomb attacks on naval air bases at great distances from his own base... His accident, I regret to say, was caused by a slight error of judgement resulting in a nose-dive into the ground."
