INDENT 9510 Private William Henry Abner, born Netherbury, Dorset, died of wounds Mesopotamia 18 November, 1914. The Bn. took part in the march on Basra which included the actions of the 15th and 17th November, 1914 - the casualties from these two actions were the first in the war against Turkey
Second Lieutenant Robert Williams Talbot Cox, born 1890, educated at Merchant Taylor's School and attended New College, Oxford, enlisted in the Civil Service Rifles and went to France the day following the declaration of war; took part in the engagements at Neuve Chapelle, Festubert and Loos in 1915; in December of that year he was commissioned in the 6th Dorsets. He died of the wounds he received whilst rescuing a Private of the Lincolnshire Regiment from 'No-man's Land' on the morning 15 January, 1916 - was commended for conspicuous gallantry and Mentioned in Despatches
