INDENTM.M. London Gazette 8.12.1916. Citation from Australian Army Base Records, Canberra states: "On 8th August (1916) North West of Pozieres, Corporal Thompson showed great bravery and ability in handling the men of his battery and although having completed his firing he remained at his gun during an exceedingly heavy enemy barrage. His conduct throughout was most distinguished."

Corporal George Dominic Thompson, M.M. also served with 'H' Company, 14th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force and took part in the operations at Gallipoli, 25 April - 20 December 1915; Egypt, 1 January - 18 March 1916; accompanied the Egyptian Expeditionary Force 19 March - 1 June 1916 and served in France and Belgium 8 June 1916 - 11 November 1918.
