Ginner had admired Van Gogh's work since his student days in Paris and this work clearly shows the artist's influence. Indeed, a year later in 'Victoria Embankment Gardens', Ginner went even further in his attempts to emulate Van Gogh, possibly as Wendy Baron believes 'to release the artist temporarily from the restraints of the severely disciplined execution in small controlled touches which he had developed the previous year' (see W.
