A RICHLY MOUNTED TANTO, the blade takenokozori and iorimune with rendai and so no kurikara on omote and gomabashi and a bonji on ura, with ko-itame hada and komidare hamon of sunagashi, ubu nakago inscribed Chikushu ju Sa, 18th/19th century, 21cm. long; with koshirae illustrating the story of the Japanese boy-hero Momotaro, the black lacquer saya with kebori pattern and large flakes of gold hirame, the kojiri, kurikata and kashira formed in silver, copper and gilt as Momotaro's three lieutenants, the pheasant, dog and monkey, the silver kozuka depicting brushwood bundles and Momotaro's banner inscribed Nippon Ichi, the menuki formed as one of the demons from Onigashima, and a group of precious objects which were recovered from them, the kuchigane depicting Momotaro himself capturing a demon (hilt binding damaged), signed Kachigo Gyokusai, 19th century
