GOULD, John. The Mammals of Australia. London: by the author, May 1st, 1845.

Original part I only, 2° (560 x 380mm.), 15 hand-coloured lithographed plates by and after Gould and H.C. Richter, printed by Hullmandel & Walton (occasional spotting and light offsetting). Original cloth-backed printed boards with vignette of the marsupial Belideus Flaviventer on upper cover (spotted, upper joint broken).

The Mammals of Australia was not completed until eighteen years later when, in 1863, the thirteenth part appeared, bringing the total number of plates to 182. This was larger than originally intended as a printed notice, bound in part I, informs subscribers that Title-pages, &c. will be given at the close of the Work, which will probably be completed in Seven or Eight Parts... Sold not subject to return.
