Violet Trefusis's copy with her pencil markings to passages which are autobiographical and relate to their relationship. Written between May 1918 and November 1919 this story reflects their mutual passion. Violet worked with Vita on some of the passages, which appear in her letters to Vita at the time. The edition to have been published in England was suppressed by Vita after persuasion from her mother.
