Lot Essay

In the Autumn of 1892, following his divorce from Siri von Essen, Strindberg moved to Berlin with Edvard Munch, where they became leading members of the Ferkel group, a German Scandinavian school of expressionism. In November 1893 Strindberg exhibited in a 'gallery of the refused', but left the Ferkel group the following year to move with his new wife, Frida Uhl, to Dornach in Austria.
