Lot Essay

An edition of ten casts of Der Singende Mann was announced by Galerie Alfred Flechtheim in 1930. According to the Barlach estate only five numbered casts are known, and the edition was exceeded to eighteen casts which were known in 1938. Many of these are included in museum collections, to mention a few the Nationalgalerie, Berlin, Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Kunsthalle, Mannheim, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
