FIRST EDITION, dedicated to the 3-year-old son of the Prince of Wales. Mary Cooper was one of the earliest publishers to bring out books purely for the entertainment of children. The title and structure of The Travels of Tom Thumb were devised to made a dry geography appeal to children by introducing a popular figure from the chapbook tradition. Osborne p. 192.
