Lot Essay

We are grateful to Jane Roberts for pointing out that this watercolour is the only surviving view of a room in Old Osborne House.
Stephanoff specialized in depicting ceremonial scenes and interiors. His illustrations include some of the original drawings for W.H. Pyne, The History of the Royal Residences, 1819. For other examples of his interiors in the royal collection, see D. Millar, op. cit., no. 5160, Bentley Priory: Queen Adelaide's Bedroom.
