Lot Essay

With its characteristic pouncing and lozenge and bead border, pierced assymmetrically flowering apron and concave front, this commode belongs to a group of related pieces produced by the Köster family workshops in Altona in the 1760s (see A-I. Kratz, Altonaer Möbel, Hamburg, 1988, pp.214-224, figs.37-53.)
