The indistinct inscription on the stretcher of the portrait of Thomas Garle reads: 'Mr. Garle, father of Thos. Garle, Hamilton Terrace, St. John's Wood, London given to E.M. Miller on her wedding day 25th Oct. 1881 by her mother L. Garle'. The indistinct inscription on the reverse of the portrait of John Garle reads: 'Mr John Garle uncle of Mr. Thos. Garle of Hamilton Terrace St. Johns Wood, London ...'

Thomas Garle was the son of Thomas Garle of Walthamstow.
