Grant's entry in his Sitters' Book in January 1850 records: 'Miss Grant (Mrs Geary) Half length'; this picture was exhibited at the Royal Academy the same year, as no. 126, and is now at Leicester. In June 1854 another portrait of her; 'Lady Geary, Half Length £120' is recorded in the Sitters' Book, this was also exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1855, no. 155. A portrait of Mary Isabella engraved by Thomas Faed in 1851, shows a close resemblance to the sitter in the present portrait.
