George Scott (born 1783) entered the Navy, 9 June, 1798, as a Midshipman on board the Perseus bomb; 1799-1802 was a Master's Mate in the Minotaur 74 under Captain Thomas Louis; 1802 was received on board the Resistance 36 which was shipwrecked near Cape St. Vincent, 31 May 1803; promoted to Acting-Lieutenant on the Camellion 18 under Captain Thomas Staines; Midshipman and Master's Mate in the Victory 100 (1804-5), bearing the flag of Nelson; Lieutenant of the Childers 14, under Captain Sir William Bolton. He was then appointed to the Phoebe in 1806 when he served under Captains Oswald, Hassard, Stackpoole and Hillyar in the North Sea, Mediterranean, off Greenland, the Baltic, Channel, Cape of Good Hope and East India Stations; First Lieutenant 1811 prior to the expedition against Java, promoted to acting-command of the Renommé, October 1812 for her return to England, where he received a second promotal commission dated 24 March 1812. On 29 November 1828 his last appointment was made to the sloop Champion 18.
