Jean-Jules-Bernard Salmson (1823-1902) was celebrated for his portraits of historical figures, mythological and oriental works. The present group is rare cast of a graceful composition of the two mythological lovers. A subject often treated in sculpture, Salmson has created an elegant ensemble in a neo-Mannerist style, enlivened by a fine attention to detail, such as the folds of drapery and roses.
