A PAIF OF METAL-MOUNTED SÈVRES-PATTERN TAPERING OVIFORM VASES AND DOMED COVERS painted by Tisserand with scenes of Napoléon engaged in his campaigns, one with the Emperor flanked by his officers, his army negotiating a mountain-pass in the distance, the ground inscribed Rivoli in gilding between swags of laurel and beads, the other with the Emperor explaining the battle-plan to his generals before a distant army, the ground similarly gilt and inscribed Friedland, each cartouche surmounted by martial trophies, the reverse of each vase painted with isolated châteaux in wooded landscapes, surmounted by eagles in flight trailing banners and palm-fronds, the covers and stems gilt with the N monogram and tasselled ribbon-tied swags of laurel, the neck gilt with eagles perched on darts of lightning among clouds, mounted with leaf finials, collars around the lower bodies and on shaped-square bases (one cover restored, the other with chips, slight area of restoration to one shoulder, some glaze crazing), artist's signatures, imitation Sèvres marks, late 19th Century
