A JOSEPH HOLDCROFT CYLINDRICAL TOBACCO-JAR AND COVER moulded in high relief on a mottle-glazed body with three blue shield-shaped cartouches with yellow rims, enclosing blackamoor masks with animal-mask headdresses festooned with white beads, conjoined by a claret strap within moulded bands of fret-pattern at the rim and base, the cover with a turbanned blackamoor's head finial within a shell necklace, with a turquoise-glazed interior, on three paw feet (slight restoration to cover), impressed mark and 4, painted numbers 14 and 24, circa 1870
