Decorated in gold hiramakie, kirigane, hirame, ivory, red lacquer, aogai and shibuichi inlay on a hirame ground, the cover depicting Bashiko beside a dragon in a wood, with a poem, the interior of the cover similarly decorated, without inlay, with a scene on Lake Biwa, the box in hirame fitted with a base for an inkslate, suiteki and two narrow trays for brushes, with two brushes and a knife decorated in gold hiramakie with plants, slight wear
