Details
1961 BENTLEY S2 STANDARD SALOON
Registration No. EM 8012 (UK)
Chassis No. B77DV
Engine No. 38DB
Shell grey over black pearl with red trim.
Engine: V8, overhead valve, 6,230cc, 200bhp at 5,000rpm. Gearbox: automatic; Brakes: servo-assisted drums all round; Suspension: front, independent, wishbones and coil springs, anti-roll bar; rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs. Right hand drive.
At the 1959 London Motor Show Rolls-Royce Bentley Motors introduced their first all alloy V8 engine in the Bentley S2 and its equivalent, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II. The result was a larger, but not heavier, more powerful engine providing an extremely smooth power curve and top speed well in excess of 110mph. Automatic transmission and power steering were fitted as standard.
Electric windows and a split bench front seat were amongst the special features fitted before the car was delivered to its first owner. He eventually sold the car in 1980 with a mileage of 46,090 miles. Today the mileage has increased to approximately 73,000. The red leather upholstery and wooden dasboard are in good condition, and the original radio is in working order. Air conditioning is also fitted. The paintwork and chrome are in in sound condition, although there is a small dent and some scratches to the near-side front wing. This is a genuine low mileage example and we have been told that it won a prize at the Tatton Park Vintage Vehicle Show in 1992.
