AN UNUSUAL RIDING SWORD with associated broad double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with wide fuller on each side at the forte, the forte etched with suns, stars and the letters IF, steel hilt comprising slender moulded knuckle-guard extended to form the downcurved rear quillon, upturned heart-shaped side-ring filled on the outside with a finely pierced plate and joined to the pommel as a slender moulded bar on the inside, similar small semi-circular side-ring bent over the base of the blade, flattened plum-shaped pommel with central groove on each face, and copper wire-bound wooden grip, circa 1640, probably German
