Lady Alathea Talbot, third daughter of George Talbot, 7th Earl of Shrewsbury, K.G. and his step-sister Mary, daughter of Sir William Cavendish, married in 1606 Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel. There is another version of the present picture, also signed and dated 1619, in the Yale Center for British Art
