Lot Essay

The attribution to Marchetti was kindly suggested by John Gere. The drawing must be a late work as the arms are those of Pope Sixtus V (1585-1590).

The study by Viani inserted by Talman in the centre of the Marchetti drawing is a study, in reverse, for his etching (Illustrated Bartsch 19, 1)
