Little is known of Torre's early years but he evidently studied Reni and his most talented pupil Cantarini. His most celebrated work was the destroyed altarpiece in Santa Maria della Caritá, Bologna known through the bozzetto at Modena and preparatory drawings at Windsor and in the Metropolitan Museum, New York. Torre was active as a copyist and a restorer, in the latter capacity he was at Modena in 1658-9 working on Correggio's Madonna and Child with Saints Sebastian, Geminian and Roche now at Dresden
