Very little is known about Jan Moninckx. He came from a family of painters active in the Hague in the 17th Century. In 1672 he and a number of other artists were involved with the authentication of paintings sold by Gerrit Uylenburg to the Elector of Brandenburg. In 1681 he is recorded as living in the Hague, and in 1698 as living in Amsterdam
