Lot Essay

The author was a student and close associate of Avicenna and wrote Avicenna's biography. The present work is one of the best copies of kitab al-shifa and the one of the most authoritative commentaries, being completed during Avicenna's lifetime.

Al-Baihaqi, for whom the manuscript was first written, was a renowned scholar and author of alchemy books. He died in AH 907/1501 AD.

The first folio contains the impressions of two ownership seals and the signatures of the owners: one reads Muhammad Nasir and is dated AH 1161/1748 AD, and the other reads Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Tusi. There is also a seal impression on the final folio reading Haji Muhammad 'Ali.
