by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Peterbsurg, period of Nicholas I
Circular, the centre painted with the Order of St. Andrew within a stylised undulating gilt border, with, on the exterior blue border, the Orders of St. George, St. Vladimir, the White Eagle, St. Stanislas, St. Alexander Nevskii and St. Anne on an ivory ground within a stylised gold rim, marked on the base
10in. (25.5cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The design for this plate was copied from the original Coalport service created by John Rose and Co. circa 1845 which was commissioned by Queen Victoria and exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. This service was presented to Nicholas I. See Antoinette Fay-Hallé and Barbara Mundt, Nineteenth Century European Porcelain (London, 1983), illus. p.206.
