Lot Essay

The arms are those of the Fishmongers' Company. Cf. D. S. Howard, op.cit., p. 624. There were originally two Communities of Fishmongers - the Salt Fishmongers and the Stock Fishmongers. In 1536 they were united and at this time new arms incorporating both coats were designed.
