Printed title, double-page engraved title, index and key sheets, general map of the region on 3 double-page sheets, together with a 47-sheet detailed survey of Egypt (both the Nile and delta) and Palestine, 43 sheets double-page, original tissue guards (occasional very light spotting). Contemporary tree sheep, spine gilt (edges lightly rubbed, spine neatly restored at head and foot). Provenance: Verso of printed title with crowned A cypher.
A fine clean copy, with wide margins, of the first modern survey of the Near East. The work was carried out in 1798 and 1799 by the French Corps of engineers and geographers who accompanied Napoleon on his Campaigns in Egypt and the Levant. The survey was published in Paris as the atlas volume to Description de L'Egypte, 1809-30, the research report of the expedition. This copy of the atlas volume is the second edition, with the printed title dated 1826.
