AN ATTIC RED-FIGURE AMPHORA, attributed to the Berlin Painter, circa 490-480 B.C.
Side A: Nike flying to the right, playing a kithara; she wears a diadem in her long hair which is folded up at the back; her diaphonous dress is lightly indicated in red; the upper part of her wings show tiny 'hooks' and the ribbon hanging down from the kithara is decorated with red crosses. In her right hand and attached to her wrist is the cord holding the plectrum, in added red. A line of meanders interrupted by crosses and circles form the base line
Side B: a standing draped youth wearing a wreath and holding a staff in his right hand
The neck is decorated with double palmettes alternating with double conjoining helmets below a palmette (side A) and palmette scrolls (side B), with palmette and scrolls below each handle
Condition: upper part of neck and rim restored; small area of restoration on Nike's dress
