2 etched panoramic views of Vienna, each on 3 sheets joined (overall 195 x 995mm.). The two views taken from the North and the South of the city, the principal churches and buildings named, titles set in banderolles, one incorporating the imperial eagle. cornerpiece armorial cartouches bearing the Imperial and Civic arms, privilege in cartouches at lower right corner (the privilege for the view of the north inked over in a contemporary hand).Provenance: Lloyd Triestino Collection.
A very rare set of Augustin Hirschvogel's panoramas of Vienna. In this set the view from the north appears to be an unrecorded second state with the date amended in the plate to 1569. Schwarz p.185, 80 and 81 records one complete copy of the 1547 set in Vienna, and 3 other examples of the views surviving separately in various institutions. This set is printed on uniform paper stocks. These delicate etchings were drawn by Hirschvogel whilst carrying out his survey of Vienna. (2)
