The song, composed in April 1850 while the Schumanns were living in Dresden, is a setting of a text by Julius Buddeus, the J.B. of the inscription, who was also responsible for the text of Die Meerfee. It was published in July 1850 by Schuberth & Co., with the other two songs in Drei Gesänge, opus 83.
