A FRENCH HUNTING KNIFE AND PLUG BAYONET with single-edged blade back-edged towards the point and etched and regilt on each face with a panel of strapwork at the base and rococo scrollwork and trophies against a reblued ground elsewhere, the hilt mounted in silver-gilt, comprising short thick quillons, the main faces with recessed panels chased in relief with trophies against a granular ground, slender reversable ivory grip (slight crack) swelling into a spirally-reeded knob-shaped pommel, with engraved silver ferrule at the bottom and disc-cap, in original green shagreen-covered wooden scabbard with silver-gilt locket and ferrule chased en suite with the quillons (gilding rubbed overall), the locket with frog-button and pointillé signature 'Ritz Md Fourbiseur Rue St honore', struck twice with the Paris small discharge mark used 1757-81, circa 1770-80
