Lot Essay

A closely related settee, in the manner of Henri Jacob (d.1824), with upholstered bergère arms and bearing the brand of the Chateau de St. Cloud, was sold in these fooms 18 March 1965, lot 132. The latter similarly had baluster arm-supports with striated pedestals; tapering columnar feet and a frame with stringed and imbricated scales together with scallop-shells at the top of the arms
